A UHasselt delegation recently returned from a visit to the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) in Poland, a key partner in the EURECA-PRO alliance. This visit provided an invaluable opportunity to explore the facilities and operations of SUT, with a focus on fostering future collaborations.

DAY 1

The visit featured a comprehensive tour of the European Health Tech Innovation Centre, established in cooperation with Philips. This cutting-edge research facility features a wide range of well-equiped and modern labs. While primarily dedicated to biomedical engineering, they also support various other fields, promoting both internal and external collaborations.

Afterwards, the delegation visited the local airport where SUT offers facilities for transport and aviation engineering. Some members of the delegation even had the opportunity to fly with the SUT staff, adding an exciting dimension to the visit.

The day concluded with a tour of the Gliwice campus, where the delegation immersed themselves in the campus atmosphere, exploring student dormitories, and visiting the renovated library. The local student hub, featuring a theatre, offices for student representatives, bars, and party facilities, highlighted the dynamic student life at SUT.

DAY 2

On the second day, the delegation split into smaller groups to meet with SUT representatives. These meetings focused on discussing best practices and internal operations to strengthen collaborative relationships. Topics included legal entity matters, international relations practices, potential research collaborations, and engagement with the Scientific Student Association, which boasts over 500 members.

The visit concluded with a tour of the local mines, offering the delegation a historical perspective on the university and its region. This glimpse into the past underscored SUT’s deep roots and rich heritage.

The delegation left with anticipation for a future filled with productive collaborations. The visit not only solidified existing ties but also opened new avenues for joint collaborations and shared achievements.
